Ten minutes later, I finally see Cindy, waiting for me.

I'm panting as I finally reach her, "Sorry, if I'm late. But–"

I can't finish my sentence as Cindy's beauty stuns me. But I realize… it’s not because her beauty gets me excited. I immediately look at what she’s wearing, how she’s done her hair, and I think about how Olivia would look in that get up.

"Cat got your tongue?" Cindy finally speaks, amusement evident in her voice.

"You look nice tonight," I finally reply as I pinch myself out of the trance of thoughts of Olivia.

Cindy playfully slaps my arm.

"So what are we up to for this date, Owen?"

"McNeal's gone for the month, so he kept me in charge of at least keeping the place clean and free from squatters or thieves," I explain.

Cindy pouts. "But this is pretty secluded and we’re in the middle of nowhere, so you'd better make this good, Owen."

"Exactly," I reply as I take her hand, and we run through the silent fields. The lights from the town slowly fade away as Cindy, and I reach the hill just on the border of McNeal's farm. I roll on the fresh grassy ground and signal Cindy to do the same.

"You had me wear a dress," Cindy complains as she sits down next to me.

"In my defense, I only told you to wear something nice," I say jokingly.

She pinches my side. I keel over, but we laugh it off before I finally get her to lie next to me.

"Oh, my!" Cindy reacts.

"So, now do you see why I wanted to take you here?" I say as I point to the gorgeous night sky. McNeal's farm is the only place in town where the natural lights of the small town can't pollute the view.

"That's Cassiopeia," I say, pointing to the constellation. "Legends say that was immortalized in the sky because she believed that her daughter was more beautiful Poseidon's daughters."

"That's so sad. But if Cassiopeia was really punished there, maybe it was more than belief? And that her daughter's actually more beautiful than Poseidon's daughter?"

"I dunno about them, all I know is all the stars in the sky can't hold a candle to you," I say.

Cindy turns and smiles. Our eyes meet, but mine wanders on her lips. My body wants to lean closer, and Cindy does lean over. But I stop and apologize.

I just can’t do it. In the back of my mind, Olivia's still here. Even though the only person right here is Cindy.

And I need to accept that.
